SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Police have charged two people in connection to a string of motor vehicle burglaries along Route 27, while one suspect is still at large.
The suspects allegedly broke into vehicles in South Brunswick, Franklin and North Brunswick since mid-August, according to a statement prepared by the South Brunswick Police Department, including 48 in the Kendall Park and Kingston areas.
Electronics, jewelry and cash were stolen.
Detectives charged Jermaine Robinson Jr., 21, of New Brunswick, and Jerome Thomas, 19, of Somerset, over the past two weeks. Robinson and Thomas were charged with numerous counts of burglary and theft and are currently lodged at Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick.
Jarred Robinson, 23, of Franklin, remained a fugitive as of press time. He is not related to Jermaine Robinson, according to South Brunswick Detective Dennis Yuhasz.
Jarred Robinson was allegedly connected to the case after police recovered a stolen vehicle on Springdale Road on Sept. 21. Police stated they then interrupted Robinson in the process of breaking into vehicles in the Royal Oaks Apartment Complex in South Brunswick on Sept. 24.
Robinson reportedly fled, according to police, but a bag recovered from the scene included electronics, clothing and cash which had been stolen from vehicles over the prior week.
Detectives from South Brunswick reportedly linked physical evidence from one of the crime scenes to one of the suspects. Detectives also recovered video surveillance from a home reportedly linking the suspects to the crimes, officials from South Brunswick said.
The investigation determined that the suspects committed the crime sprees during the overnight hours to vehicles in residential developments. On one night the suspects broke into seven vehicles in the Highgate Manor development, police said.
Thomas and Jermaine Robinson were apprehended with the assistance of the Franklin, New Brunswick and North Brunswick police departments.
Police described Jarred Robinson as a black male, 5-foot-5-inches, weighing 135 pounds. Anyone with information on the suspect should call 732-329-4646.
Anyone with information on the case should call Detective Dennis Yuhasz or Detective Michael Pellino at 732-329-4000, ext. 7441.
