The Hillsborough Jr. Raiders defense pitched its third shutout of the season and ’Boro remained unbeaten by defeating the Jr. Canucks of North Plainfield, 31-0, in Skyland conference varsity play.
The Jr. Raiders opened up the scoring with an option run by quarterback Tom Ramsey behind a big block by Adam Schebece.
On the next possession, Ramsey connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Houser. The final touchdown of the first half was run in by Sean Levonaitis with Jon Seaton and Ric Sarkar leading the way. Tom Ramsey was 3-3 on PAT kicks.
The defense recorded its third shutout of the year behind strong play from TJ Schultz, George Ma, Kevin Klein and Michael Clerico.
The Jr. Raiders added a final touchdown on a run by Anthony Scannelli behind blocks from Tommy Haber and Kevin Rolon. Luke Popadiuk ran in the PAT.
The Jr. Raiders (6-0) will take on the undefeated Bridgewater Jr. Panthers on Saturday at Hillsborough High School at 7:30 p.m.
Skyland JV û
On a brisk fall evening at Hillsborough High School, the Hillsborough Jr. Raiders Skyland JV team (5th & 6th grades) defeated the North Plainfield Jr. Canucks, 38-0, to raise their record to 5-0-1 on the season.
In a full team effort, the Raiders got contributions from the entire roster. Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Burke’s defense used all 23 players in the shutout.
Offensively, QB Jay Mazeura kick off the scoring with a 32-yard dash off the left side behind blocks by tackle Rohan Deb and tight end Ethan McLaughlin. Thomas Amankwaa followed that up with one of his signature 48 yard juke-and-jive runs behind a pancake block by right tackle Evan Swearengin.
In the second quarter, Mazeura connected with TE McLaughlin on a short pass in the corner of the end zone for Boro’s 3rd TD. Backup QB Mike Miller led the last scoring drive of the 2nd quarter, featuring a heavy dose of QB runs, capping it off with a quick plunge from 2 yards out.
Fullback Andrew Santa Barbara opened the second-half scoring with a 20-yard run off the right side. Flanker Rocco Viscel finished off the scoring bonanza with a 16-yard scoot around left end following blocks by center Mark Gulla, guard Nick Koll and tailback Mason Lane.
The Jr. Raiders look forward to hosting the Bridgewater Jr. Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m.
