Resident endorses independents

I personally am not a fan of the party system used to elect government officials. I feel that it forces people to take sides instead of voting for what is the best course of action or the best person for the job.

The upcoming election on Nov. 3 gives Eatontown voters a unique opportunity to seat two nonparty-affiliated candidates: incumbent Anthony Talerico Jr. and longtime Eatontown resident, educator and civic volunteer Virginia East. While both have histories as Democrats, they are now Eatontown independents. They learned firsthand what happens when they publicly disagreed with our previous mayor over the rezoning and land use of the Old Orchard golf course. Running as independents was clearly their best option. It will enable them to put the “Town before the Party.”

Both Talerico and East are experienced and strong candidates who have demonstrated their willingness to work hard, think clearly, remain open to new ideas and do what is in the best interest of our town. I ask you to vote for them Nov. 3.
