EATONTOWN — With six candidates vying for two seats on the Borough Council, the outcome of the Nov. 3 general election could change the political makeup of the governing body, which currently has four Republican and two Democratic members.

The past several months have seen numerous changes in the names of the candidates on the ballot – mainly on the Democratic Party line.

Currently, Democratic incumbents Janice Kroposky and Anthony Talerico Jr. hold the two seats up for election.

In April, Kroposky, who is currently serving her first term on council, announced that she would not run for re-election due to both personal and professional reasons.

Fellow Democratic incumbent Talerico announced that he would be seeking reelection to a third term on council, but this time as an independent candidate.

Despite the changes, it was newcomers Pamela Caputo, founder and managing director at Community Green Market Organizers, and Lisa Wilson, executive director at the Long Branch Concordance Family Success Center, who received the nomination to run on the Democratic Party line.

In June, however, Caputo withdrew her candidacy and was replaced by newcomer Tiffany Miller, a resident of the borough for more than a decade who is a psychotherapist currently employed as a crisis clinician for a leading healthcare provider.

In August, Wilson also withdrew her candidacy for council, being replaced by long-time resident Judith M. Bretzger, who currently serves as vice chair of the Eatontown Democratic Municipal Committee, president of the Eatontown Democratic Club and who has served on the Pride in Eatontown Committee for the past 15 years, the last four of which as committee chair.

Facing off against Miller and Bretzger on the Republican Party line will be newcomers Douglas Ronan and Edmund F. Fitterer Jr.

Fitterer, who has been a resident of Eatontown for about nine years, is vice chairman of the Eatontown Republican Party and currently serves on the Eatontown Board of Education.

Ronan, an account executive at a local marketing company, has been a resident of Eatontown for approximately 15 years and has been an active volunteer, serving as an alternate member of the borough’s zoning board and as past president of the Eatontown Baseball League.

Also vying for a seat on council as Talerico’s runningmaterunning mate is longtime resident Virginia M. East, a former educator who has been involved in the borough for more than 40 years. She currently serves as a member of the planning board.
