HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Lester pays attention to the town’s bottom line

Fran Bartlett, Hopewell Township
As a former Democratic mayor of Hopewell Township, I must respond to some opinions published on this page about the township budget under Harvey Lester’s management.
Having watched the disastrous purchase and planning of the Pennytown-Kooltronics scheme (under, I am sorry to say, a Democratic administration) to the tune of at least $7 million dollars, I am amazed at how well Mayor Lester’s budget came out this year.
The debt from that debacle is still hanging over the township. Considering that burden, one is respectful of the 14-meeting budget process that landed the township in a position to retain the lowest municipal tax rate in the county.
I endorse Harvey for his commitment to fighting against rampant development like Pennytown-Kooltronics, and his careful attention to bottom line. I encourage my friends to join me in supporting him on Nov. 3.
