DAR observe day of patriotic service

PHOTOS COURTESY OF ELAINE EVERETT WEST LONG BRANCH — A dedication ceremony was held at the Historic Free Church Cemetery to mark the grave of Elizabeth Eaton Slocum (1773-1861), the daughter of Revolutionary War patriot Lt. John Eaton and Elizabeth Brinley, and the second great grand-daughter of Thomas Eaton, founder of Eatontown.

At the dedication, a DAR grave marker was placed on Elizabeth Eaton Slocum’s grave with the invocation led by an honor guard of members of the Monmouth Chapter NSSAR, Sons of the American Revolution and taps played by Cadet Seaman Recruit MAST David Scott.

A wreath was placed on the grave by Michelle Mazzucca of the Livingston Chapter NSCAR, Children of the American Revolution. Michelle is a fifth great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Slocum.

Chapter Regent Liz Dunnell paid tribute to Elizabeth Eaton Slocum and to all the men and women who throughout our country’s history have served with integrity and devotion.

Oct. 11, 2015 a National Day of Service and congratulating the NSDAR on its 125 years of patriotic service to America was read by Eatontown Councilman Anthony Talerico Jr.
