MILLTOWN — Borough officials will discuss much needed technology upgrades throughout Borough Hall and municipal departments at the December council meeting.
Councilwoman Doriann Kerber said the telephone system at Borough Hall is antiquated. According to officials, it is 15 to 20 years old.
“It definitely needs updating and replacement,” she said.
The municipal building has six phone lines, which drop calls if no one is there to answer, she said. Kerber said the calls should be routed into voicemail so that callers can leave messages.
The computer software installed in the computers at borough hall is Microsoft Windows XP, which Microsoft has stopped support and security updates in April 2014, Kerber said, and should be updated.
She also said some borough departments do not have management software programs including the public works, utilities and parks and recreation departments, which she said is an important tool for employees to better manage information and to be more productive in their respective roles.
Mayor Eric Steeber agreed it is a good idea to look at the outdated technology.
“I think I have Windows 2003 … the gerbil is tired of running on its wheel,” he said.
The next council meeting will be held on Dec. 14.
