A Mantua man who allegedly used a voice-disguising application on his phone was charged Nov. 10 with making false reports to law enforcement.
Officer Alexis Mirra arrested Carlton L. Griggs of Mantua in a case that began when Mr. Griggs allegedly called township police Oct. 17 and identified herself as a female and a victim of harassment.
She said she was residing in Delaware and identified the male harassing her as a person that lived in Hopewell. She said she tried to report the harassment to a police department in Delaware but they did not take her seriously.
After an investigation with assistance from Lawrence Township Police and Detective Frank Tulko, Officer Mirra determined that Mr. Griggs, 32, had called police initially on a cellphone with the ability to impersonate a female. Police said he provided a name of a suspect that was similar to his own.
Mr. Griggs specifically asked to speak with a female Hopewell Township officer when he first contacted police, according to a press release.
Mr. Griggs was later released after being processed at headquarters. His case will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor.
At 10 a.m. Oct. 6, Officer Alexis Mirra took a theft report from the contractor working on the Hopewell-Pennington Trail on Carter Road. Sometime during the prior few days six rolls of fabric filter valued at $2,135 were stolen from the site.

On Nov. 9, 20 minutes after midnight, Officer James Klesney investigated a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot off Route 31. While speaking with the driver, identified as Jeanwill Jean-Baptiste 31, of Connecticut Avenue, Hamilton, the officer found contempt of court warrants for Mr. Jean-Baptiste’s arrest from Hamilton were located. He was placed under arrest and turned over to Hamilton Township.

On Nov. 15, at 3:57 p.m. Officer Vincent Amabile was dispatched to a call about an erratic driver on Route 29 near Fiddlers Creek Road. The witness reported that a 2015 Hyundai was driving erratically and hit a guardrail. Officer Amabile located the vehicle nearby and spoke with the driver, who was identified as Mary Ellen R. Birdsey, 61, of Stonerise Drive, Lawrenceville.
Officer Amabile said he smelled the odor of alcohol on Ms. Birdsey, gave roadside sobriety tests and placed her under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was taken to headquarters, where she was released to a friend. Her case will be heard in municipal court.
