NORTH BRUNSWICK — Three brothers were recognized for their dedication to their country during a recent street naming ceremony.
On Nov. 2, Lee Avenue and Haverford Street were renamed in an honorary fashion for Vincent, Anthony and Ben Vitanza.
Vincent was born in 1926 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946. He was a Tech 4 during World War II and served four years.
He was the oldest son, lived on Linwood Place and was most known for his jewelry business, North Brunswick Jewelers.
Anthony was born in 1930 and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1951. He was a staff sergeant during the Korean War and served for four years at Mather Field Air Force Base in Sacramento, California.
He is the middle son and lives on Lee Avenue.
Anthony became a North Brunswick policeman when the department was part-time and became the first PBA representative in North Brunswick. Later, he became a detective and police commissioner and then worked for the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Ben was born in 1933 and enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1951. He was a corporal in the 10th Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas, and served for two to three years.
He was the youngest son and lived on Independence Boulevard.
Ben was a musician and founded the North Brunswick School of Music and later Vitanza’s Country Place.
