HILLSBOROUGH: Elks lodge crowns ‘hoop shoot’ top shots 

Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13, won the local lodge round of competition in the 44th annual Elks Hoop Shoot, free throw shooting contest, held Nov. 21 at Weston Elementary School in Manville.
These champions will represent the Manville-Hillsborough lodge at the West Central District competition, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 9, in Bound Brook.
Boys 8-9: Derek Feath, Hillsborough (13 of 25);
Boys 10-11: Kyle Lamonica, Hillsborough (13 of 25);
Boys 12-13: Juan Velasquez, Manville (9 of 25);
Girls 8-9: Ava Lamonica, Hillsborough (14 of 25);
Girls 10-11: Camilla Galvez, Manville (5 of 25), and
Girls 12-13: Giavanna Barras, Manville (10 of 25).
Top scorer of the day was Ava Lamonica of Hillsborough, who made 14 of 25 free throws.
Trophies will be awarded to the champions at meeting night at the lodge in February.
The Elks Hoop Shoot, began as a local program by the Corvallis, Oregon, Elks in 1946. By the time the national champions are crowned in Chicago early in April, more than three million boys and girls will have participated. 
