PLUMSTED – Excitement for “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” may be at a fever pitch, but residents in Plumsted will not have to travel to “a galaxy far, far away” to share their enthusiasm for the famous film franchise.

From 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 16, the Plumsted Library will host a “Star Wars” celebration for individuals age 8 and up.

“This is for people to drop in and have fun,” said Kim Babcock, senior library assistant and teen service provider. “Other branches (of the Ocean County Library) may have had ‘Star Wars’ events of their own, but this was entirely coordinated by us at the Plumsted branch.”

The library’s “Star Wars” kickoff party will feature various activities. Attendees will be able to make Christmas tree ornaments, participate in a video game competition and take pictures with friends at a photo booth.

Babcock said there will be “Star Wars” refreshments such as “Yoda Soda” and “Wookie Cookies.” She said the library has received support from Disney, which now owns the “Star Wars” franchise, for giveaways at the event.

“They sent a huge box to us. It’s awesome,” Babcock said, adding that the giveaways will include commemorative “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” mugs, T-shirts and other items.

Babcock, a self-professed “Star Wars” fan, said she is excited to share her enthusiasm for the film series with a younger audience.

“When I started here, I asked the members of our Teen Advisory Board what their interests are and a lot of them said ‘Star Wars,’ ” she said. “They said they liked it because the movies are such a cool and epic story. Even the girls like it. There’s just something for everyone.”
