NORTH BRUNSWICK — Music will once again fill Wednesday nights this summer with free musical entertainment in Babbage Park.
North Brunswick Township will host an array of local musicians on the park’s stage every Wednesday at 7 p.m. from July 7 to Aug. 18 in its second annual Summer Concert Series.
"This is a great way to invite the community to come out and relax in a hometown atmosphere," program coordinator Kim Mangino said. "The series also helps the township to promote the use of our beautiful parks."
Families and friends are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets to the tree-shaded venue to hear a variety of musical guests sponsored by the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation.
"Working with the foundation has given us access to a broad musical spectrum of talents," Mangino said. "In the past we have typically featured rock and pop bands, but this year we will explore many different musical genres."
Rock, pop, gospel, jazz, and blues musicians, including Jed Heggerson, Beau Burtnik and Marty Karbowksi, are scheduled to perform, Mangino said.
The seven concerts will provide entertainment suitable for all ages, Mangino said.
"We want this to be a traditional township event, and we are looking to expand it," Mangino said. "The township is already looking to schedule an indoor miniseries in the colder months of January and February."
Local musicians who have interest in performing at a township event should contact the North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services.
For a complete concert schedule check the listings on local cable Channel 22 or the township’s Web site.
In the event of inclement weather, rescheduled concerts will take place at the end of August, Mangino said.
