WEST LONG BRANCH — The Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University announced a call for nominations for the 2011 Ocean Champion and LeadershipAwards.
The awards will be presented at the seventh annual Champion of the Ocean Awards Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 21, in Woodrow Wilson Hall at Monmouth University. The deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, July 20. Nomination guidelines and forms are available online at http://www.monmouth.edu/urban_ coast_ institute/default.as p.
The awards luncheon is held in conjunction with the seventh annual Future of the Ocean Symposium.
Nominations are requested for three award categories: Coastal and Ocean Leadership Award; Volunteer of the Year Award; and Coastal and Marine Educator Award. The awards are open upon nomination to individuals, private- and public-sector organizations and businesses, and state and local government agencies and their employees dedicated to the stewardship, education, conservation and management of coastal zones and oceans.
ANational Ocean Champion is also selected in consultation with the UCI Advisory Committee and national leaders around the country. Nominations may be submitted by an individual or organization, and there is no entry fee.
Nominations must follow the guidelines provided, including a clear, concise and complete description in 250 words or less of the achievements to be recognized and a statement of how the individual meets the judging criteria. Nominations should try to address as many of the specific awards criteria as possible that are applicable to the nominee.
