OLD BRIDGE— The approximate onemile stretch of Ticetown Road from Wisdom Way to Higgins Road may receive resurfacing, which was last done 20 years ago.
The Township Council voted in favor of authorizing the submission of an application for funding under the 2016 New Jersey Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Program in the amount of $430,498 for resurfacing the stretch of Ticetown Road at a meeting on Sept. 21.
“The last resurfacing was done 20 years ago,” said township engineer Nicole Shapiro, adding that the previous resurfacing was also funded by the DOT.
Township Administrator Christopher Marion said the administration applied for the funding last year; however, there was an issue with the application when it went to the state DOT.
“We only received one acceptance in the Municipal Aid Program last year and it was for a bike and pedestrian path on Cottrell Road,” he said.
Marion said in the application, which is due Oct. 15, 75 percent of the project is funded through the program and 25 percent is included in the township’s capital budget.
“The project must be completed within 18 months,” he said. “The funds would be in the 2016 capital budget and the project would be completed in 2017.”
Marion said the township would be notified in June of whether the DOT approves the application.
In other council news, the council accepted a grant award from the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety through the Emergency Management Performance Grant 2014 Program in the amount of $10,000. Marion said an application is submitted every year for the grant, which is a stipend for the Office of Emergency Management coordinator.
