SAYREVILLE — The fifth annual “Cuts for a Cure” cut-a-thon benefiting the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research was held June 3 at the Hair Shop, 3188 Washington Road, Parlin.
Owner Maryann Lavery-Minnella and her siblings have hosted the event in the salon’s parking lot each of the past five years in memory of their parents, Jack and Connie, who both passed from pancreatic cancer.
“We were happy to see the crowd that came out to support us,” said Lavery-Minnella. “Several people came back from previous years, while others attended for the first time after finding out about it on the radio or in the newspaper. My family and I are so grateful for the response we received from salon clients, friends, family and the local community. Without them, I could not pull this off year after year.”
Lavery-Minnella said last year’s event raised $9,997 for the Lustgarten Foundation, and she is confident that they would surpass that amount this year once all donations have been submitted.
Lavery-Minnella expressed her thanks to the following for their generous donations: The Sayreville Police DepartmentAuxiliary, Sabert Corp., Villa Venezia, Bello’s Sports Pub, Texas Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse, Peter Pank, Old Bay, The State Theatre, Seasons Coal Fire Bistro, Pazzo of Red Bank, Lakewood BlueClaws, Somerset Patriots, RWJ Fitness & Wellness, Arthur Murray Dance Studio, M&L Contracting, the Wyndham Las Villas Resort-Mazatlan, Mexico, Chubby Penguin, DJ Chris Ives and Joe Minnella.
