The James Sherman comedy “Mr. 80%” is running through May 6 at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The story revolves around Sharon (Angela Trombatore), a lawyer with a past full of failed relationships, and Patricia (Melissa Mount), a grumpy sleep-deprived medical resident, who are looking for an additional roommate to supplement their New York City apartment rent. Being disgusted with men, the women stipulate that their roommates must be female or gay males.
Sam (Matthew Gochman) and Jan (Jeff Caplan), a comedy duo, pretend to be a gay couple for the sake of cheap rent, and true comedy ensues, complete with slapstick, sight gags and lots of laughter from the audience. They succeed in fooling the women, but love eventually makes fools of them as well.
The 1980s comedy is directed by community theater veteran Amy Levine-Brandt, of Brick Township.
