New Egypt Day brings family fun

PLUMSTED — Main Street New Egypt and Plumsted Township are inviting the public to attend the annual New Egypt Day festival slated for May 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The old-fashioned street fair will feature an afternoon of live music, food, rides, games and activities.

Festivities will be split between Oakford Lake Park and the Presbyterian Church grounds on Front Street. A scenic pedestrian bridge over the lake links the two sites.

Music will be provided throughout the day by Jersey’s own Michael Patrick and the Suburban Hillbillies. Carefully blending elements of traditional country, 1950s style rockabilly, folk and roots rock with a “classic rockin’ edge,” this group has devised a style that appeals to people of all ages.

In recent years the group and its members have shared the stage with Randy Travis, the Outlaws, the Marshall Tucker Band, David Allen Coe, Gary Alan, Rosanne Cash, Marty Stewart, Carlene Carter and many more.

The New Egypt Day festival will feature an array of things to see, from Civil War displays by the 2 Texas Cavalry to boat rides on Oakford Lake, and many things in between. Rock workshop students of the Sweet Music Academy will perform in the gazebo from 3 to 4 p.m. For children, there will be inflatable rides, pony rides, face painting, sand art and more.

Festival attendees are asked to support the community and bring a nonperishable food donation to the Helping Hands Pantry table, which will be in the church parking lot.
