Elegant federal style Colonial, a hidden jewel in Monmouth County, is on the market

The Dr. Samuel Forman House, built in the 18th century, is a rare offering for those who appreciate historic ambiance and charm with classic modern amenities. This majestic estate takes you back in time with its exquisite architecture and the authentic period-appropriate façade.

The main house, built by Dr. Samuel Forman (1764-1845) in 1820 and later occupied by his son John Fisher Forman, originally stood at the northeast corner of County Highway 537 and East Freehold Road, where the original stone smokehouse can still be seen. This rare historical home is nestled on a knoll among 3.3 acres of bucolic splendor in Freehold Township. The earlier section of the home is the 1.5 story wing on the north end. The elliptical arch portico, paneled door surrounds, two-story south wing and dormers are among the Colonial Revival modifications of the 1930s made by architect J. Hallam Conover of Freehold. The house was moved to its present location at 378 East Freehold Road, Freehold, in the 1960s by Peter Saker of the Saker family. The gracious grandeur of this six/seven bedroom, four/two bath home is enhanced by 9-foot first-floor ceiling height, wood flooring, hand-hewn beams and arched doorways throughout the main level. The elegant dining room, restored in 2011, has beautiful handcrafted wainscoting and one of seven fireplaces. The gourmet kitchen with custom cabinetry will delight the most discerning chef. Features include large center island, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a 300-year old antique brick fireplace, bringing the warmth of the past. Original split Dutch doors enhance the charm of the original farmhouse built in the 1700s, which now serves as the family room. The authenticity of the original interior brick walls can be seen throughout the home. The present owners painstakingly restored the exterior and many of the interior rooms of this home in 2011 and were awarded the Monmouth County Historical Preservation Award.
