Teachers are what make a school successful

I have heard a lot of complaints about the redistricting for Jackson schools, mostly from those who will have children attending Switlik. They say, "We live in a new subdivision, we should go to the new school" or "We pay ‘x’ amount in taxes, we should be in the new school."

These are not new complaints. I heard them two years ago when we moved to Jackson and Craw-ford-Rodriguez was opening. We moved in two weeks before my daughter began kindergarten. We were new to the state and knew no one. Everyone at Switlik made us feel at home.

I could not have asked for a better start to my daughter’s education than she received from Christine Temple and Gilda Aiello. They are two of the most kind, patient, caring and devoted teachers around. It is not the building that educates our children, it is our teachers. What sort of values are being instilled in our kids?

The kids are listening to these comments, they will believe them and repeat them, if they aren’t already. Is that the attitude you want your child to grow up with; that they are better than everyone else because they come from money? I am saddened we will be leaving Switlik this year due to a job transfer.

Had we stayed we would have been moved to Elms. I would have gladly given up a shiny new school for the shining faculty of Switlik.
