Several A&P and Pathmark stores in the area are set for closure.
A&P, 2101 Route 35, Holmdel; A&P, 325 Highway 35 south, Cliffwood; Pathmark, 50 Racetrack Road and Route 18, East Brunswick; Pathmark, 561 Route 1, Edison; and Pathmark, 1043 Route 9 north, Old Bridge are part of 25 stores that will be closed in the near-term “due to lack of interest and significant ongoing store operating losses,” according to a statement issued by The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company.
The company will also sell 120 stores for approximately $600 million as it files for bankruptcy.
The company currently owns 296 stores under the brand names A&P, Best Cellars, Food Basics, the Food Emporium, Pathmark, Superfresh and Waldbaum’s.
