Once again, Trinity Hall, the all-girls college preparatory high school, has been forced to defend itself against a small but vocal group of local residents.
Trinity Hall is an asset to our community.
Here are some facts. Trinity Hall has extensively renovated Croydon Hall at its own expense. This much-improved building will be returned to the township at the end of the lease.
Many local jobs will be created as a result of the growth of the school, and area businesses will benefit.
This year, approximately 80 ninth- and tenth-grade students performed over 1,400 hours of local community service. This included students working with the Middletown Township Parks and Recreation Department, Middletown Senior Center, Red Bank Crop Walk, Project Paul, Lunch Break and 11 other worthy organizations. The school will continue its mission of service. In its first two years of operation, Trinity Hall athletic teams have succeeded in regional, county and state competitions. Beginning in the fall of 2015, teams will compete at the varsity level in 11 sports, including crosscountry, soccer and swimming. The teams are strong and getting stronger.
Trinity Hall has a vigorous interdisciplinary academic program that has allowed the students to succeed. Students have already been selected to participate in programs at Stanford University, Georgetown University, Vanderbilt University, Rutgers University, Johns Hopkins University and the United Nations.
Isn’t this the type of school we want in our community? It’s time for the citizens of Middletown to embrace Trinity Hall — and I, for one, hope we do.
