KEYPORT — The New Jersey Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is partnering with the Keyport Yacht Club to host the 12th annual Bill Volk Leukemia Cup Regatta June 9-10 in Keyport. Sailors from around the Raritan Bay will be raising sails to help raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services.
There are many events planned for both racers and non-racers during the regatta weekend, including two days of competitive racing for one design division, monohull boats over 21 feet in length, and a Navigator Division race on Saturday. Happy Hour on Saturday, June 9, at 4 p.m. will include Mount Gay Rum drinks, a raw bar and live music provided by Free Beer & Tips. The Keyport Yacht Club is located at 115 First Ave.
Activities continue on Saturday with the Leukemia Cup Regatta Dinner Reception at 6 p.m. The evening will feature dinner, a silent auction, raffle prizes and live entertainment. Tickets will be sold at the door for $25.
Anew addition to this year’s regatta will be the first Light the Bay Remembrance Ceremony. Light the Bay is a maritime innovation based on the renowned Light the Night events sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
On the evening of June 9, shortly after sunset, boaters in Keyport Harbor will light their boats and illuminate the bay while those on shore will carry lighted balloons. A remembrance ceremony will be held on shore to remember lost loved ones and pay tribute to cancer survivors.
