Hazlet fifth-graders raise funds for local charity

In Hazlet, Middle Road School students from Mrs. Janet Fischer’s fifth-grade class can make a difference in this world.

We had a bake sale to raise money to donate to a charity called 180, Turning Lives Around.

This charity is for abused women and children.

We made a lot of money — $225 to be exact — and it all is being donated so this organization can have the things it needs.

We got this idea from a story we read called "It’s Our World Too!," which was about children making a difference in their community.

We planned this since January, and finally got to have it Feb. 20.

First we wrote a persuasive letter to our principal to get permission, then we made posters and fliers for the bake sale.

We voted to decide what local charity would receive the money.

We did all this to prove children like us could make a difference.
