Amazing show of support on ‘Make A Difference Day’

In support of national "Make A Difference Day" on Oct. 28, the Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean County-based organization, Project Linus NJ Inc. organized a "Five-Hour Blanket Blitz" to aid fragile children, through donation of handmade blankets. Eighteen separate towns, via local police, fire and first aid departments (that serve children during the course of their jobs), received support. Three hundred and eighty-two "blanketeers" arrived at the Keyport Senior Center to create handmade blankets for kids.

All materials were provided to the chapter by generous supporters of Project Linus NJ, Inc. Refreshments were provided by Edwards supermarket of Keyport, Costco of Hazlet, Shrewsbury State Bank, and Dunkin’ Donuts. A mailer was included in the September water bill inviting the Keyport community to participate. The Volunteer Center of Monmouth County provided large exposure and volunteer recruitment opportunities and, as a result, the turnout was high.

Enthusiastic volunteers contributed more than 750 handmade blankets. A proclamation for Make A Difference Day was read by Freeholder Ted Narozanick at the start of the "Blanket Blitz," and marked the event in a special way.

Community outreach, volunteer involvement and the unique spirit that keeps Project Linus NJ Inc. focused on helping seriously ill and traumatized children was greatly impacted by this generous show of support.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to a wonderful day of giving. Together, we all made a difference in the lives of fragile children.
