ENGLISHTOWN — The cause of a fire that destroyed a home at 2 Park Ave., Englishtown, on the morning of March 9 remains unknown.
“The cause of the fire is undetermined,” Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Charles Webster said this week.
The investigation into the fire was conducted by the prosecutor’s office, the Englishtown Police Department and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office. It revealed that the fire began in the first floor kitchen, Webster said.
Englishtown Police Lt. Peter Cooke said a passer-by reported the fire at 6:30 a.m. Firefighters from Englishtown and neighboring municipalities responded to the blaze during the morning rush hour.
Traffic was detoured away from the burning home, which is a short distance from the intersection of South Main Street and Park Avenue.
Cooke said the two-family house was vacant at the time of the fire. The residence, which contained two apartments, was under renovation at the time, Webster said.
No injuries were reported to any emergency personnel who rushed to the scene to fight the fire. The raging fire was brought under control in about 60 minutes, Cooke said.
