FREEHOLD — Late spring and summer will once again bring music and dancing to Main Street in downtown Freehold with the return of the Downtown Freehold Summer Concert Series.
The concert series will begin on June 11 with a performance by Mission Dance. The music will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Monmouth County Hall of Records plaza, Main Street. Parking is free in downtown parking lots and the concerts are free.
The concerts will continue with the Jersey Four (Four Seasons tribute) on June 18 and the Amish Outlaws on June 25.
The lineup for July features The Nerds on July 2, Screaming Broccoli on July 9, Time Machine on July 16, the Phil Engel Band on July 23 and Eagle Mania (Eagles tribute) on July 30.
Brian Kirk and The Jirks will perform on Aug. 6, followed by Bobby and The Jets on Aug. 13, the British Invasion on Aug. 20 and Jimmy and The Parrots on Aug. 27.
Kim White and Jamie Ventriglio love to dance and are anxiously anticipating the return of the concert series. The two women can often be seen dancing right in front of the stage.
“We love the concerts,” White, of Freehold Township, said. “It’s a nice night out in town and it doesn’t cost us any money to hear great music. It’s a great summer night out with a small-town feel. We always have fun and will usually go for a drink or a bite (after the concert).
“In addition to the awesome music, you can dance, too, and the beautiful location and the time element holds great appeal for me. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. You are in a family setting where people of all ages are welcome, you can get something to eat and you’re home by 11 p.m. You can’t beat it and it’s a great way to kick off the weekend,”
White said.
Sometimes White’s fiancé, Jerry Fournier, and Ventriglio’s husband, Tom, accompany the women.
Most of the time, however, it is just the two of them, and they look forward to having fun.
Ventriglio, of Freehold Township, said, “We have made a lot of friends there. Even if you go alone, you will always run into someone you know. You are never really alone. Kim and I are really looking forward to the concerts this summer. We always have a good time and it’s a great night out.”
Christina DeGulis, the marketing and events coordinator for Downtown Freehold, said, “All year, bands that want to perform contact us, which is wonderful. Cover bands that can play a wide variety of popular hits from (several) decades seem to be the hands-down favorite. There is a very special excitement when you hear the first few notes or beats from a song you used to love and you can sing along and dance to it.”
The Downtown Freehold Summer Concert Series is presented in association with 33 East Full-Service Car Wash.
