Steve DePalma, chairman and CEO of Schoor DePalma, will receive the Manager of the Year – Excellence in Management Award from the New Jersey Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers on May 4 during the Section annual award dinner at the Woodbridge Hilton. The award recognizes DePalma’s efforts in carving the positive direction of the firm’s growth throughout its history. His skill and passion for engineering management, giving back to the community, and his dedication to the progress of the engineering profession are the qualities that the ASCE seeks in its award recipients.

Concorde Limousine of Freehold recently presented its 2006 Concorde Limousine Chauffeur of the Year Award to David Swineford.

The criteria for this award is based on knowledge of the job and continued follow through of training. Swineford has successfully mastered the art of being a professional Concorde chauffeur through his excellent customer service, client commendations, dependability and going above and beyond in his job.

A resident of South River, Swineford lives with his wife, Donna, and has three children. Prior to his work with Concorde, Swineford was a professional truck driver with U.S. Food Service for 21 years.

The Lung Cancer Circle of Hope, the only New Jersey nonprofit dedicated exclusively to lung cancer advocacy and education, is partnering with CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, to educate New Jersey residents on the facts about lung cancer, the nation’s leading cancer killer of men and women. The free educational symposium, “Lung Cancer: It’s Not Just for Smokers,” will be from 6-8 p.m. on April 18 at CentraState Medical. Master William R. Good and Carol A. DeCaro, owners of Taekwondo of Morganville, will participate in a special presentation to be held May 3 at 7:15 p.m. During the 100th Promotional Test/Rank Ceremony, Good and DeCaro will be tested for black belt degrees, perform physical demonstrations and receive their “World Renown Rank Certification” from their black belt instructor staff and students. The law firm Javerbaum Wurgaft, Springfield, has announced its merger with Sinins and Bross, Newark, creating a new 12-member firm, Javerbaum Wurgaft Hicks Kahn Wikstrom and Sinins. Bob Hicks, West Long Branch, is one of the partners in the firm name. The firm will serve clients in complex litigation matters such as personal injury and workers compensation. The merger adds three attorneys – brothers Rubin and Scott Sinins, joining as partners; and father, Stephen Sinins, as counsel.

Javerbaum Wurgaft was founded 25 years ago, and has offices in Newark, Harrison and Freehold. The merger with Sinins and Bross extends its territory in Union and Essex counties.

SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) Chapter 36 of Monmouth County will present a free two-part business seminar, “The ABCs of SBA Loan Programs” and “Insurance for the Small Business,” 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 25 at the Wall Township branch of the Monmouth Country Library, 2700 Allaire Road.

In part one, Sun Bank officials, Regional Vice President Brent Howard, and SBA lending officer and Vice President Andrew Glatz, will describe small-business financing, such as SBA lending policies, basic terms, necessary qualifications, and the application process.

During part two, James Carton, co-owner of Bittner and Carton Insurance Agency, Keyport, will discuss federal and state insurance requirements for small businesses, workers’ compensation, and insurance coverage such as auto, liability, property and casualty options.
