March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the perfect time for people to switch to a vegan diet and reduce their risk for cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
According to the American Cancer Society, “Adiet high in fat, especially fat from animal sources, can increase the risk of colorectal cancer.” Research shows that people who eat plant-based foods, which are generally low in fat and high in fiber, are much less likely to develop cancer. In fact, studies suggest that vegans have less than half the cancer rate of meat eaters.
Why take your chances? It’s much easier — and more fun — to eat delicious, nutritious foods like veggie burgers, spicy tomato ziti, curried chickpeas, faux chicken, sautéed asparagus, and spinach and hummus wraps than to undergo colorectal surgery, chemotherapy or other costly medical procedures.
