ALLENTOWN — The Allentown High School Redbird Marching Band recently beat out 11 other bands to win a competition in Hershey, Pa.
The Redbirds took home the first place trophy in the United States Scholastic Band Association’s Band Championships Competition Nov. 2. The marching band competed against bands from surrounding areas on the east coast.
This award is probably one of the most coveted awards of all competitions during the marching band season, according to the band’s parent association.
In addition, the Redbirds took first place for best percussion and best music. This year’s theme was ” An American Portrait.”
The Redbird marching band is directed by Jeff Santoro and assisted by Frank Shay and Joe Brausam.
David Geltch is the band’s percussion director and Matt Hurley and Ray Okuda are the color guard instructors.
Allentown High School students and drum majors Melissa Koons and Stephanie Dreifus lead the band on the field.
