The Novo Nordisk Diabetes Center at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, recently received the Community Partner of the YearAward from the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) serving Greater New York. The designation recognizes CentraState for its service and contributions to the success of the foundation’s Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) and prevention efforts. The Novo Nordisk Diabetes Center at CentraState has helped the NKF to reach the public with messages of prevention and to create programs that improve the lives of individuals and families affected by kidney and urologic diseases.

Capt. Michael L. Detzky, Judge Advocate General’s Corps, U.S. Navy Reserve, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by President Barack Obama in recognition of his meritorious achievement while serving as commanding officer, Naval Reserve Appellate Government from December 2008 through December 2011.

Detzky is a partner in Detzky & Hunter, LLC, a law firm with offices in Freehold and Somerville, and concentrates in consumer and business bankruptcy and immigration law. He has been in the U.S. Navy Reserve for more than 29 years.

The Meritorious Service Medal is presented to senior military personnel who distinguish themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States subsequent to Jan. 16, 1969.

Manalapan Township Administrator Tara Lovrich has been elected vice president of the New Jersey Municipal Management Association (NJMMA).

Lovrich became Manalapan’s administrator in 2007 after serving as its assistant administrator for five years. She has been a member of NJMMA since 2000. Lovrich holds a master’s in public administration from George Washington University. She currently services as a commissioner on the Garden State Joint Insurance Fund.

Founded more than 50 years ago, the NJMMA is dedicated to the professional training and development of municipal managers. It has more than 200 members from throughout New Jersey. NJMMA has been instrumental in shaping legislation and policies that affect services to residents and business. It is affiliated with the Rutgers Center for Government Services in New Brunswick, which provides administrative support for its members.

The Freehold Home and Business Expo will be held from 4-7 p.m. May 22 at theAmerican Hotel, Freehold. The focus of the nonprofit event will be on innovation in homes and businesses. The event will feature 50 vendors, five speakers, a cash bar, giveaways at tables, and thousands of dollars in door prizes. All proceeds above the expense of the hotel will be donated to the Samaritan Center food pantry, which helps feed residents of Englishtown, Manalapan, Marlboro and Millstone Township who are struggling to make ends meet. Many of the vendors are also helping to support this cause, including Lew Zimkind or Marlboro, owner of From Gold 2 Green, who will be donating 15 percent from unwanted gold and silver jewelry transactions. The Howell Chamber of Commerce will host a Breakfast Bonanza networking event from 8-9:30 a.m. May 11 at Kumon Learning Center, 4554 Route 9 south (next to Pathmark), in Howell. All are welcome to attend for networking and an informative presentation, “Retirement Planning for Your Business,” by member Gene-Ann Pesano of Prudential. Manalapan Letip is now forming at Battleground Country Club, Manalapan. Letip is a business networking group in which one person per profession is represented.
