MANALAPAN — The Manalapan High School Marching Braves will serve as hosts for a marching band competition to be held on Oct. 11 as part of the United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) competition festivities for 2008.
The event will feature 10 marching bands performing music while marching in formation. Color guard members will enhance the field show with choreographed movements and visual aids such as colorful flags.
The participating bands are categorized according to size and compete against bands within their specific group. Trophies will be awarded at the end of the competition.
The following high school marching bands will compete: Hackettstown, Sayreville War Memorial, Brick Township, Central Regional, Toms River East, Brick Memorial and Howell.
The Manalapan Marching Braves will perform in an exhibition.
The performances will begin at 5 p.m. on the Manalapan High School football field, Church Lane, off Tennent Road, Manalapan. Food and refreshments will be available. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children, seniors and students.
All are welcome to attend the family event. In the event of rain, the competition will be moved indoors.
