The East Brunswick Public School district is planning to review its transportation system.
According to Board of Education Secretary and Board Administrator Bernardo Giuliana, the district is looking into ways to improve on the system.
“What we’re doing is we’re taking a look to see what kinds of improvements we can make to our transportation system,” said Giuliana.
According to Giuliana, the examination is not in reaction to anything that has occurred in the district, but rather a proactive measure.
“It’s an opportunity to really do a self assessment, and I think there may be opportunities for improvement. We just don’t know until we delve into it,” he said, also mentioning that improvements can be seen in the realm of transportation time or the number of transportation contracts the district has.
“[We are looking at] What opportunities might exist for efficiency in terms of times, utilization of vehicles, in terms of contracts. So it’s simply an examination of how we’re doing things,” he continued.
The district intends to work its transportation routing software, Tyler Technologies VersaTrans Routing and Planning, to find better ways to manage transportation.
The district has had the current system for five years, according to Giuliana. The district has also had several changes in staff, so the review will help newcomers gain a familiarity with the system.
The district, according to Giuliana, transports around 4,000 students through regular transportation, close to half of the overall enrollment.
According to the New Jersey Department of Education, during the 2014- 15 school year, the East Brunswick district included 8,147 students among its 11 schools.
