National Night Out takes place Aug. 4 in Monroe

MONROE – The Monroe Township police department will be hosting a National Night Out Against Crime event on Aug. 4, starting at 6 p.m. at the lake in Thompson Park.

According to Jay Brown, program supervisor for the Recreation Department, National Night Out is all about connecting the community and bringing people together.

“It just develops a sense of community and gets everyone out to have a good time,” Brown said in an interview. “People come from all over, it’s not just Monroe. Everyone is welcome.”

According to Brown, the recreation department will be providing free food, including hot dogs and drinks. They will also be staffing two cotton candy machines. The department is looking forward to matching last year’s total of about 1,000 hot dogs served.
