The Madison Park girls softball 2002 season registration will be held on Jan. 24 and 31 for girls between the ages of 5 and 17 in Old Bridge and surrounding areas from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Old Bridge Library. No work bond required. All players receive full uniform. Fees are $65 for the first child, $35 for each additional child (check or money order only). The East Brunswick Recreational Senior Wrestling teams (ages 12-13) won against Metuchen on Jan. 8. Winning for the team with pins were Chris Corona (70 pounds), Kyle Mascola (80 pounds), Chris Williams (90 pounds), Todd Maryott (110 pounds), Mike Corona (105 pounds). Joe Lanza (115), Sergio Garcia (120 pounds) and Kyle Harper (131 pounds) won by forfeit.

The Spotswood recreation wrestling team, which competes in the Mid-Jersey C league, is 1-2. In their first match of the season, Spotswood lost 54-30 against Sayreville. They picked up wins from Ray Michalowski, Mike Cherry, Ken Szabo, Bob Szabo, Danny White and Joe Deeves. In their 53-24 loss against Hazlet, Spotswood picked up wins from Steven Baum, Mike Billitz, Bob Szabo, Danny White, and Joe Deeves. Spotswood won their first match of the season against Old Bridge 43-33 with wins from Steven Baum, Ray Michalowski, Slade Hulseberg, Mike Billitz, Mike Cherry, Ken Szabo, Bob Szabo, and Joe Deeves. Bob Szabo and Joe Deeves are undefeated in dual meet action with 3-0 records. Spotswood’s next match is against Fords on Jan. 23 at Fords Middle School.

The Monroe U12 boys travel basketball team had a 2-0 weekend by defeating Milltown 51-31 on Friday, then defeating Colts Neck 45-39 on Sunday. The team was led by the outstanding play of Klye Horsch and Frankie Carr. On Friday Horsch had 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Carr had eight points and three steals. Also on Friday, Mark Gulick had eight, Greg Moyes seven, and Kevin Synarski and Colin Horsch had five each. Matt Troncone and Dale Santiago had two points each. Vincent Mahmoud chipped in with four points. On Sunday, Klye Horsch again led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Carr did it all with six points, five assists and five steals. Vincent Mahmoud hit for eight, while Joe Costa hit a big jumper late and ended up with six points. Matt Troncone had two points and seven rebounds, Greg Moyes had three points and Colin Horsch two. The team is now 11-4.
