The East Brunswick YMCA seventh-grade travel basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend, beating Branchburg 47-25 and then losing a tough one to South Amboy, 53-59. In the victory over Branchburg, the boys improved their winning streak to three in a row. It was another team effort, as every player on the team scored. The team was led by Nick Navara (11 points), Danny Turek (7 points), David Weber (6 points) and Akaash Swarup (5 points).
The second game was a tough loss against South Amboy. The team was down early and had to fight to get back into the game. They made a furious second-half comeback that fell a bit short. A couple of missed layups and put backs were what really hurt the team. The team was led by Malik Holmes in scoring and rebounding with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Navara provided the other offensive power by dropping in 16 points. Even though in was not a mark in the wins column, the boys learned that they can play with any team in the league.
