Eastern Monmouth County’s largest conservative Jewish synagogue, Congregation Torat El-Jersey Shore Jewish Center, located at 301 Monmouth Road in Oakhurst, will host a Scholar-in-Residence weekend May 4-6 with Dr. Eliezer Diamond. Diamond is the Rabbi Judah Nadich associate professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He teaches rabbinic literature and introductory, intermediate and advanced Talmud studies.
Diamond’s visit begins May 4 with a presentation following 6:30 p.m. services and dinner titled “You Had to Be There: An Introduction to Rabbinic Humor.”
Saturday morning continues with 9 a.m. services, during which Diamond will deliver the sermon. Following services, lunch will be served and he will discuss “The Passion in Perspective: What the Talmud Has to Say About Jesus and His Disciples.”
Diamond’s visit concludes on Sunday with an 11 a.m. brunch, during which time he will discuss “Sinai Revisited: A Rabbinic Retelling of Revelation.”
