McKay Imaging Photography Studio & Gallery is hosting another in its series of “Breaking Away” exhibits.
“Afterthoughts,” drawings and such by John Kochansky (1958-2005), will be at the Red Bank gallery through July 7.
McKay Imaging Gallery officially opened its doors to the public on July 14, 2005, with its first exhibition, “Found, Not Lost: Works by John Kochansky.”
That exhibit rekindled the friendship between Bob and LizMcKay and Kochansky, who Bob had known since high school.
The inaugural exhibit showcased a series of vintage photographic portraits that Kochansky had collected from thrift shops and antique stores, had treated with bleaches, dyes and organic materials.
Kochansky died suddenly in October 2005.
According to a gallery statement, Kochansky’s death galvanized his family and friends in an effort to show the more than 1,000 pieces that he left behind and to archive his works and release them for sale.
Proceeds will benefit The Karly Kochansky Scholarship Fund, founded to send his daughter, Karly, to college.
Two posthumous shows of his vibrant drawings, paintings and sculpture have been mounted. This third showing has been curated by Karly from her father’s vast legacy of work.
McKay Imaging Photography Studio and Gallery is located on the second floor at 12 Monmouth St. Hours are 1- 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. For information, call 732-842-2272 or visit www.mckayimaging.com.
