Teri O’Connor has been selected to succeed Robert M. Czech as the Monmouth County administrator when Czech begins his new job in Gov. Chris Christie’s cabinet.
Czech’s departure date is expected within the next week or two, according to a press release from the county.
O’Connor, who is a resident of Monmouth Beach, has been a Monmouth County employee since 1984 when she started working in the administrator’s office as a clerk under former administrator Robert J. Collins.
The Board of Freeholders voted on Feb. 11 to elevate O’Connor to the administrator post. She had been serving as deputy county administrator since 2006.
Under the resolution that was passed, O’Connor’s appointment becomes effective upon Czech’s resignation, which is expected soon.
“Teri is the most qualified person for the job,” Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry said. “She worked her way up through the ranks and her appointment is well-earned.”
O’Connor was graduated in 1981 from Richard Stockton College in Galloway Township with a bachelor of science degree in social work. She pursued her education and, in 2002, she received her master’s degree in administrative science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
In 2006, O’Connor was promoted to deputy county administrator, and served as acting county administrator for several months in 2007 upon the retirement of Administrator Louis Paparozzi.
She resumed her duties as deputy administrator when Czech was hired in November 2007.
O’Connor’s appointment is for a fouryear term. Her annual salary is $155,000, according to the press release.
