Nicholas Berezansky

   MANVILLE — Nicholas Berezansky died Sunday, March 31, at home. He was 80.
   Born in Manville, he was a lifelong resident of the borough.
   He served in the U.S. Marines from July, 1939, to December, 1945, at which time he began his life in community service.
   He joined the Manville Rescue Squad in 1945. He decided he wanted to teach other people to help, and became an instructor for the American Red Cross, traveling the tri-state area teaching people to help. He became an instructor trainer for both the Red Cross and the American Heart Association, teaching in New York City at Columbia Medical Center and New York School of Medicine.
   During his time with the Rescue Squad, he served the New Jersey State First Aid Council, 5th District Vice-president. He retired from the Rescue Squad after 53 years of service.
   Mr. Berezansky continued his community service as Director of Emergency Management until 2001.
   He served on the Board at Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He received the Man of the Year award from the Manville VFW Ladies Auxiliary for 1978-1979.
   He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville.
   A son, Robert Berezansky, died in 1996; three brothers, Alexander, Charles and John; and a sister, Anne are also deceased.
   Survivors include his wife, Lillian Berezansky; one son, Richard of Hillsborough; three brothers, Michael of Dunedin, F1a., Andrew of Fort Worth, Fla., and Joseph of Stewartsville; and two grandsons.
   Funeral services were held April 3 from the Ketusky Funeral Home, Manville, followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Manville. Burial was follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.
