Despite loss, Warriors show they could be a team to win a lot of games this season.

If there’s such a thing as a split decision in baseball, this past Monday’s game would be it.
New Egypt may have lost 4-3 on a late rally by Burlington Township, but it showed itself to be a team that could win a lot of games this season.
New Egypt actually was leading 3-1 going into the last of the fifth. A crucial error and a two-run, two-out hit, however, allowed Burlington Township to tie the game. Burlington Township then won the game on a two-out hit in the last of the seventh.
"This one was an ‘ouch’," noted New Egypt manager Richard Carroll. "Justin Wilkins pitched a great game. It was a shame to waste it.
"He gave up a run in the first inning. In the past he’s put his head down when he’s fallen behind, but he didn’t do that. I was proud of the way he battled."
New Egypt took the lead in the top of the fourth with three runs. Adam Milosz led off with a walk and then stole second. Dave Lipay grounded out, moving Milosz to third. Dan Von Schmidt then reached on an error, putting runners on first and third with one out. James Farrell and Wilkins then delivered back-to-back doubles. Farrell’s hit scored the tying and go-ahead run. Wilkins hit put New Egypt in front 3-1.
Wilkins held that lead until the last of the sixth. Gene Darling then won the game for Burlington Township by fouling off some tough pitches before getting one he could handle for the game-winning hit.
"This is just the first one of 25," Carroll noted. "This is just a tough way to lose the first one."
New Egypt was supposed to play at Palmyra this past Tuesday. New Egypt’s first home game will be this Saturday when it hosts Florence in an 11 a.m. start.
