Weather causing work delays

The opening date for the borough’s new Department of Public Works administration building has been pushed back until later this summer.
The new single-level, 1,800-square-foot building, built at a cost of approximately $525,000, was originally slated to open July 1; however, the recent slew of heavy rains and damp conditions have temporarily halted construction on the building, thus delaying the opening.
"Unfortunately all this wet weather has set everything back a bit," said Councilman Martin Wierzba, Borough Council liaison to the Public Works Department. "There are some things that you just can’t do with concrete when its wet outside, but everything is still in good shape and hopefully it shouldn’t be too much longer before everything is finished."
Phil Petrone, Department of Public Works Director, anticipates that the building will be ready for occupancy sometime between mid-July and early August.
"I would say we should be ready by July 15, but it could be later than that, it could be August," said Mr. Petrone.
Ground for the new building was broken in August of last year. The new administration building, located on Gladys Avenue, will consist of office space, locker rooms and a lunchroom.
