BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP
Deonka O. McDaniels, 25, of Trenton was charged with providing false identification and hindering apprehension at 8:05 p.m. Jan. 16.
Officers were dispatched to Route 130 near the Route 295 exit to respond to a report of a disabled car. Officers arrived to find Ms. McDaniels and her two sons, ages 3 and 4, still inside the car. Officers saw that the car, a 1987 Ford Tempo, did not have a license plate, according to police reports.
Ms. McDaniels said the car was new and she threw away the temporary plate, police said. When asked for her identification, police said Ms. McDaniels told officers that she did not have her driver’s license or proof of insurance.
She gave her name as Deonka O. Smith, with an address in Trenton, police said. Officers could not find driver’s license information with that name, and found that the vehicle identification number showed that it was registered to a person in Cherry Hill, whose name was not given in the police report.
Officers called for a tow truck for the car and took Ms. McDaniels and her sons to the Laurel Notch Motel on Route 206, where she said she was going to visit a friend. Officers obtained permission from Ms. McDaniels to leave the children with that friend while they took her to headquarters, according to reports.
Officers identified Ms. McDaniels through fingerprints, and found that her driver’s license was suspended and that she had an active warrant out for her arrest for $2,500 out of Trenton.
Bail was set at $2,500 and Ms. McDaniels was transported to the Burlington County Jail.

Rana Pravinkumar, 33, of State College, Pa., was charged with theft by deception at 5:17 p.m. Jan. 15.
Mr. Pravinkumar had been taken into custody by ShopRite store security on Route 206, who told officers that he had taken $29 in merchandise, police said.
Store employees said they had videotape showing that Mr. Pravinkumar entered the store with an empty shopping bag and placed items into the bag prior to going to the checkout aisle. Those items selected were listed on a receipt that Mr. Pravinkumar brought with him, according to reports.
Store security alleged that Mr. Pravinkumar took the items to checkout to return them for cash. Those items included a package of ricotta cheese, $5; Dove soap, $6; and a 12-pack of Scott bath tissue, $8. Mr. Pravinkumar was transported to the police station, where he was issued a complaint and was released on his own recognizance.

James D. Rehl, 42, of Robbinsville was charged with filing a false police report on Jan. 18.
Mr. Rehl called Bordentown police from his home in Robbinsville to report his vehicle stolen. Mr. Rehl told officers that he had left the vehicle, a blue 2001 Chevy pickup, at the Town and Country Diner on Route 130/206 while he was at another location with his girlfriend. When he returned, the truck was gone, he told police.
Meanwhile, officers were investigating a hit and run accident at Farnsworth Avenue and Route 206, where a traffic signal had been knocked down in the left turn lane. No other damage was caused.
Officers were checking the area for the vehicle suspected in that accident and found Mr. Rehl’s truck parked off the roadway on Crosswicks Road, according to reports. There was damage to the front left fender of the truck that matched up with the scratches and scuff marks left on the damaged traffic signal, police said.
Police told him that they knew the truck was not stolen because it was found locked and there was no damage to the steering column or wiring indicative of a theft. Also, Mr. Rehl still had his keys—the only set for the truck, police said.
Mr. Rehl then admitted to officers that he lied because he panicked about the accident, police said. He said he lost control of the vehicle while he was making the left turn, police said.
When asked if he had been drinking, Mr. Rehl replied that he had, police said.
Mr. Rehl was issued a summons for filing the false report and was released on his own recognizance.

Denise J. Jones, 46, of Trenton was charged with driving while intoxicated at 2:33 a.m. Jan. 24.
Officers stopped Ms. Jones while she was traveling north on Route 130 for failure to maintain a lane, police said. Officers noticed the smell of alcohol on her breath and administered a field sobriety test, according to reports.
While at police headquarters, Ms. Jones refused to submit to a breath test, police said.
Ms. Jones was also issued citations for failure to maintain lane and refusal to submit to the breath test. She was released on her own recognizance.
