Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space lauded for cleanups

Recognition came from The New Jersey Clean Communities Council.

Ted Stiles, president of the Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space (FHVOS), received an award from the New Jersey Clean Communities Council in May at the council’s annual dinner for the organization’s programs in keeping Hopewell Valley’s roads, byways and public open space clean and litter free.
The FHVOS holds semi-annual Clean-Up Days, when hundreds of volunteers from various community organizations take to local roads, parks and streams to collect hundreds of pounds of litter and discarded objects. The group recently completed it 26th cleanup.
The New Jersey Clean Communities Council conducts a wide range of anti-littering education, prevention and operational activities throughout the state.
Council Executive Director Sandy Huber said: "FHVOS received the Outstanding Stewardship of Public Lands Award prevailing over a large number of other competitors due to the effectiveness, demonstrated success and long history of the Clean-Up Day program. Ted has been a state leader in the fight against litter and his program is a fine example for groups across our state on how to effectively employ litter tax grants."
Clean Communities Council President and Chairman of Hopewell Valley Community Bank Patrick Ryan said: "Ted Stiles and The Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space play a major role in the high quality of life in the Hopewell Valley. Ted’s innovative vision, dedication and leadership have allowed all of us to enjoy not only clean roads but precious open space as well."
