The South Brunswick High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place during an 11:30 a.m. brunch at the high school on Sunday, May 7. The brunch will celebrate the inductees and dedicated alumni and friends who serve the athletic and academic traditions at SBHS.
This year’s inductees are Brian P. Klimowicz, Mike Reock, Denise Dohanic, Raymond Trent, Kristen Baker Huggins, Carrie Rubenstein and Brian David Plotnick. For information on how to attend the brunch, contact Karen Bertucci at 732-329-4044, ext. 3247.
Here is a look at four of this year’s inductees. The second group of four will be highlighted next week.
Brian Jost
Teacher/Coach
Jost has been a coach and teacher at SBHS for the past 33years and has been a cornerstone of the track and field program with 17conference, county and sectional championships in cross country, winter track and girls spring track. Jost was named Coach of the Year a combined12 times during his tenure.
In girls’ cross country, his career record is 97-60 with three Greater Middlesex Conference championships and a NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV title. In boys’ cross country he is 122-73. Entering this season, his girls spring track record was 132-55 with one Bicentennial Athletic Conference championship, two Middlesex County championships, and one GMC championship. Jost has been President of the Greater Middlesex Conference Track Coaches Association for the past three years.
William P. Klimowicz
Class of 1970
Football, Wrestling, Track
Klimowicz earned eight varsity letters, winning three each in football and wrestling, serving as captain on the football team and winning the district heavyweight championship and Middlesex County title in wrestling. He was named to All-County and Conference All-Star teams in wrestling. He also threw discus and shot for two years on the track team.
A graduate of Trenton State College, Klimowicz taught at Highland Park and Spotswood high schools until retiring in 2003. He and wife Julie have two sons, William and Michael.
Brian David Plotnick
Class of 1995
Soccer, Golf
Plotnick was an outstanding scholar-athlete, receiving All-Division, All-Conference, All-County and All-State honors in his junior and senior campaigns in both soccer and golf. He earned seven letters in the two sports. In 1994, he led the soccer team to a White Division Championship. In golf, he won the GMC Championship in a dramatic playoff his senior year. In 1995, Plotnick was SBHS’ Athlete of the Year.
He went on to play four years of Division I golf at Rutgers and captained the team his junior and senior campaigns. He currently works at Accenture, LLC in Washington, D.C., as a Management Consultant focused on large information technology implementations.
Carrie Rubenstein
Class of 1994
Tennis Basketball Softball
In tennis, Rubenstein was named All-Division and All-Academic in 1991 and 1993. She qualified for the NJSIAA First Singles Tournament in 1992 and 1993 as well as being named the Vikings Most Valuable Player both years. During her three years in softball, Rubenstein was named Honorable Mention All-Area as a junior and the Vikes Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. As a four-year varsity girl’s basketball player, she was All Division in 1992 and 1993, and won the Vikings Offensive Player of the Year Award both years.
Rubenstein graduated from the University of Michigan in 1998 and just finished her residency training in Family Medicine. She is currently on a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, where she participates in sprint distance triathlons and enjoys outdoor sports in the Pacific Northwest.
