State history fair in area park on May 6

Free event runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine,

Journey back in time and experience four centuries of New Jersey history all in one place at the "SPIRIT of the JERSEYS," a historical festival set for May 6 at Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville.
This free event, which runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine, will feature more than 60 historical organizations, 10 military reenactment groups and more than a dozen historical characters, including Molly Pitcher, Walt Whitman and Thomas Edison.
New Jersey’s history will come alive with open-hearth cooking, old time photography, a vintage 1864 baseball game, a special quilt show, an Albert Einstein look-alike contest and a variety of musicians.
Under the main tent, there will a fashion show, featuring a display of fashions and everyday ensembles — both civilian and military wear.
Children can take part in hands-on activities — from learning the art of paper marbling to participating in a pretend archaeological dig. They also can dance around the maypole and perform drills with wooden muskets. An entire field will be filled with 18th- and 19th-century children’s games and a scavenger hunt for historical characters.
The fair is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Historic Sites, administered by the Division of Parks and Forestry.
Washington Crossing State Park contains over 2000 acres in Mercer and Hunterdon counties and is accessible from Routes 29 and 546.
