Allentown tailgate party opens up to community

ALLENTOWN — The Allentown High School Student Council is throwing a party.

School administrators have invited the community to join them for a tailgate celebration. This first-time event for the community will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the high school parking lot, 27 High St.

“We are trying to create school spirit and get community involvement in our football games. We want the community to know about our school,” Vice Principal Lynn Folino said.

The tailgate celebration, which is an annual tradition at the school, will include laser tag and video games; a music dance party and dance-off; a football player lock-up and bailout; and food vendors.

Tailgaters will not only support the Allentown Redbirds football team prior to the Oct. 16 homecoming game, they will also help raise funds for Hope Loves Company.

Hope Loves Company is the only organization in the nation that provides financial and emotional support to children who have a parent with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or who have lost a parent to ALS.

A $5 entrance fee will provide access to all events at the tailgate celebration.

“The Allentown High School Student Council is the No. 1 student council for raising funds in the state according to the New Jersey Association of Student Councils,” Folino said.
