Three teens charged with vandalizing cars

OCEAN TOWNSHIP – Police arrested three area teens after a yearlong investigation by the department into a one-night vandalism spree.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male from Ocean Township and two 15-year-old males from Interlaken on June 4 after a joint investigation by the Ocean Township and Deal police departments.

The teens are suspected to be responsible for vandalizing over 20 cars on one night last July in the Ocean Township and Deal areas, according to police reports.

The teens allegedly smashed windshields, broke side-view mirrors, scratched paint and broke off the hood ornaments and windshield wipers of seven cars in Ocean Township and another 16 cars in Deal on July 7, authorities said.

The three teens are being charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief and they are also being charged with damaging landscape lighting at several residences in the area, according to reports.

The suspects have been released to the custody of their parents.
