OCEAN TOWNSHIP – Police arrested and charged an Avon man last week after he attempted to break into a township apartment complex on Apollo Street.
Tyler Jason Marshal, 19, of Avon was arrested Dec. 5 and is facing the following charges: burglary, possession of burglary tools, attempted burglary, criminal mischief, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police reports.
According to Ocean Township Detective Lt. Steven Peters, at approximately 12:04 p.m. police received a report that a resident at the Twin Brook Apartment complex witnessed a man prying open and entering a locked vestibule door at the complex, according to reports.
Marshal allegedly attempted to gain access to an upstairs apartment at the complex, according to reports, which state that a resident heard noises outside his apartment and confronted Marshal.
Marshal told the resident he was at the wrong apartment and then left the vestibule area, according to police reports.
Police Officers Michael Legg and Kate Delanoy arrested Marshal outside the apartment building and found him to be in possession of a small tool police believe was used to pry open the vestibule door and a pipe that is used to smoke marijuana, according to Peters.
Marshal was released upon issuance of a criminal summons to report to court at a later date, according to Peters.
