Shrimp Night
Friday, Sept. 11 —The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Post 39 on Fourth Avenue, Roebling, will begin their monthly Shrimp Nights on Sept. 11.
For $10, you will enjoy 15 large shrimp with homemade potato salad and cole slaw. For those that desire something different, we will again offer our meatball sandwiches with the same sides for $7. Your choice of dessert is included. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until sold out. Take out orders are available by calling 609-499-3880 any time after 3 p.m. with pickup also beginning at 5 p.m.
Movie night
Saturday, Sept. 12 —This is the last movie night of the year at St. Mary’s parking lot in Bordentown City, weather permitting. The movie begins at dusk. Bring your own chairs, blankets, food, drinks and guests. Our feature film is “Bolt.”
Car show
Saturday, Sept. 12 — The North Hanover Country Fair Car Show will be held at Green Acres on Schoolhouse Road in North Hanover. Trophies, sponsored by Liberty Toyota, will be awarded in many categories. Entries are limited to the first 100 cars to register. Ethnic festival
Sunday, Sept. 13 — St. Nicholas Byzantine Parish will hold its annual festival from noon to 6 p.m.
It will be held at the St. Nicholas Picnic Grove, Norman Avenue, Roebling. It will be a European celebration featuring John Stanky and the Coalminers. All your favorite European foods including homemade cakes and pastries will be sold. The price of admission is $2. Children under 12 admitted free with parent. Open house
Sunday, Sept. 13 — Temple B’nai Abraham, Bordentown, will host a Hebrew School Open House to register for Religious School (Sunday and Hebrew School) for ages 5 –13, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Temple B’Nai Abraham, is located at 58 Crosswicks St., Bordentown City.
A Reconstructionist congregation, interfaith families are welcome. Come meet the teachers and the rabbi and tour the temple.

Manicure for a Cure
Sunday, Sept. 13 — The Walking Soles for Fighting Souls Breast Cancer Team is hosting its final fundraising events this September and October. Call 609-298-6511 to schedule a time for a Manicure for a Cure on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Support is also welcome on Oct. 2 at the Columbus Grange for a “Spaghetti Dinner for the Cure.” Call Marion Reevess at 609-298-0463 to make a table reservation. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for kids 6-12 years and kids 5 and under free. Join the team at C. Reed’s Place on Route 130 in Hedding on Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. to celebrate our anticipated success. Mass of healing
Monday, Sept. 14 — Father John Campoli of His Love Ministries will be offering a Mass at 7 p.m. for healing at St. Mary’s RC Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown City. Following the Mass will be individual prayer and Laying on of Hands for the sick. Father Campoli is an internationally known speaker and operates in the Gift of Healing. The Mass collection will be for Father Campoli and his ministry. Following the Mass and Laying on of Hands, a reception for Father and his team will take place in the school cafeteria. Blood drive
Monday, Sept. 14 —The Bordentown Elks and the American Red Cross are sponsoring a blood drive from 2 to 8 p.m. in the lower ballroom of the Elks Lodge, 11 Amboy Road, Bordentown Township. Tuesday, Sept. 15 — The Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 holds Bingo every Tuesday night beginning at 7:15 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 16 — The Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 holds a sandwich night every Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. The price is $6 per person.
Carnival
Beginning Sept. 16 — A Family Carnival will be held at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, 902 Jacksonville Road from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be games, rides, food and fun for all! Pancake breakfast
Saturday, Sept. 19 — A pancake breakfast to raise awareness of and funds for The Harvest of Hope Food Pantry in Jacobstown will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. The funds raised through the breakfast will go directly to the food pantry. A $5 donation is requested. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the food pantry. Breakfast will be held at the Chesterfield Baptist Church, located on Matthews Lane in Chesterfield (just off Route 528 and directly behind the Beneficial Bank and Chesterfield Florist). Recruitment Day
Saturday, Sept. 26 — Cub Scout Pack 65 Bordentown will hold a pizza party for boys (grades 1-5) interested in Cub Scouts. The gathering will be held at 3 p.m., outside at Joseph Lawrence Park (next to Peter Muschal School). Interested parents should come with their boys to meet our Cub Scouts and to find out what scouting is all about. Spaghetti dinner
Saturday, Sept. 26 — An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crosswicks Fire House, New Street in Crosswicks. Including spaghetti and meatballs, assorted rolls, butter, salad, iced tea, coffee and ice cream. Tickets are $8 adults, $5 children 6-12 and children under 5 eat free. Takeout is $9. Parish Mission
Beginning Sunday, Sept. 27 — The Parish of Sts. Francis and Clare, Florence Township, will have a Parish Mission. It will begin on Sunday evening, Sept 27, and end on Thursday evening, Oct. 1. Blessing of Animals
Saturday, Oct. 3 — The Blessing of the Animals, for Feast of St. Francis, will be held at Saint Andrew’s RC Church, 2489 Monmouth Road, Route 537 in Jobstown. It begins at 10 a.m. in the parking lot.
Friends Day
Tuesday, Oct. 6 — The Florence Township Chapter of Deborah will again partner with Boscov’s for Friends helping Friends Day on Oct. 6. Advance tickets are being sold for a donation of $5. All profits go entirely to the chapter. Tickets allow an additional 25 percent on sales that day, refreshments, and entry in a drawing for door prizes. Shopping trip
Friday, Oct. 9 — The Bordentown City Senior Citizens will have a trip to Lancaster, Pa. for $58 per person including bus and dinner. Depart Carslake Community Center at 8 a.m., lunch on your own at the Green Dragon Farmer’s Market from 10 a.m. to noon. Shopping at Kitchen Kettle from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. 4 p.m. dinner at Shady Maple in East Earl, Pa. 6 p.m., bus departs for home, and 8 p.m. return to Carslake. BCEC meeting

Baking contest
The Sarah Seidel Sisterhood in partnership with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) has opened registration for their first annual “My Cookies are Better Than your Cookies!” baking contest. Winners will compete for cash and prizes, including the Grand Prize of $500, plus bragging rights to the title “The Best Cookie Baker in the Whole Wide World”.
The contest will take place on Sunday, Oct. 18. Contestants should register in advance. Auction and dinner
Saturday, Oct. 17 —The Masonic Charity Foundation is sponsoring a Tricky Tray (basket Auction) and Buffet Dinner. The event will be held at the Fellowship Center on the Masonic Home Campus, 1114 Oxmead Road, Burlington. This is an adult-only event and tickets must be purchased by Oct. 2. Seating is limited to 250 adults. Admission is $30/person and includes the buffet dinner and one sheet of regular raffle tickets. A cash bar is available. Halloween parade
Preparations have begun for the annual Bordentown Halloween Parade and House Decorating Contest. The parade will be held on Oct. 25, with a rain date of Nov. 1. Line up will be on Elizabeth Street at 1 p.m. with the parade starting promptly at 2 p.m. Due to the popularity of the House Decorating Contest, we are planning to expand the categories to houses decorated with lights and without lights. Consolidated Fire Association has been coordinating the parade for almost 40 years now and we look forward to participates starting to register their floats and marching units. Our new Web site will be up and running shortly and we are recommending, due to the popularity of the decorating contest, that you register your house to be judged.
Bus trip
Sunday, Dec. 20 — A Christmas bus trip is being planned by the Florence Township Chapter of Deborah to the Dutch Apple Diner Theatre in Lancaster, Pa. The ticket price of $72 includes all expenses: bus, luncheon and show. The bus will leave from Florence Township Library at approximately 9:30 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. We will see the Jolly Holly Christmas show. For information, call Carol at 609-499-1927.
Weight loss support
TOPS, (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), is a local non-profit weight-loss support group that is looking for new members. The group meets every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Library Company of Burlington, 23 West Union St., Burlington. The group uses a healthy caring approach to weight control at an affordable price.
