Kathleen F. Addis of Montgomery
Our family moved to Montgomery Township 11 years ago and has been neighbors of Thom Carter and his family since we bought our home in 1999.
Anyone who really knows Thom knows him to be a person of integrity and one who doesn’t hold back when he is passionate about something. He is passionate about the future of Montgomery.
Thom graduated from Montgomery High School in 1996. After graduating from Brigham Young University in Utah in 2002 and working in the health advocacy field in Ohio, Tennesse and Washington, D.C., he returned home to Montgomery to continue to help these types of organizations here in New Jersey. He was not satisfied to just be an “ordinary” citizen, but he wants to be a part of the changes he believes will improve our community.
Thom Carter and Mark Caliguire are more than just concerned about the increasing debt and higher taxes in our town. They are pushing hard to accept Somerset County’s offer to purchase the Skillman Village site. The county’s offer would not only put a beautiful park in Skillman Village, but would allow for township residents to sit on a steering committee to help develop the plan. The sale would put over $14 million in our treasury, help significantly pay down our debt and put us on a path to start lowering taxes.
Dialogue has certainly intensified of late regarding the sale of this land and the township current COAH plan. The current COAH plan identifies 77 units to be built on a parcel of the Skillman Village site. Contrary to what Keith Hovey and Mike Fedun would have us believe, this plan can be amended.
Even the township attorney, Kristen Hadinger confirmed this, as reported in Tuesday’s Princeton Packet. According to Thom, the current COAH plan has identified locations closer to 206 that would be more appropriate for COAH housing.
Montgomery needs change, change directed by people of passion, leadership, and integrity. That is why I am voting for Mark Caliguire and Thom Carter on Nov. 3.
